Can you name the movie?

i'm trying to figure out the name of this movie. I saw it a long time ago, all I remember was there was a man who was confined to a wheelchair for some reason. Then he is taken in by a lady, who lets him live in his house. He writes a book there, and I think she takes out a shotgun on him at one point. I'm not sure everything is precise in my description, but does this ring any bells?
